This conference will bring together, for the first time, the world's leading researchers dealing with AIDS and AIDS-related mycoses.

4th Symposium of Infectious Diseases in Africa:
"Immune escape from HIV-1, Malaria and TB: implications for vaccine design"
&
5th African Flow Cytometry Workshop: Measurement of Immune Responses

Organized by the Institute of Infectious Disease and Molecular Medicine (IIDMM), University of Cape Town, and Duke University, USA
The Symposium is to be held 30 August - 1 September 2013. The aims of the Symposium are:
- To provide young African investigators with the most recent data on immune evasion mechanisms leading to pathogenesis of HIV, TB, and Malaria and
implications for vaccine development.
- To allow young investigators the opportunity to discuss their own research projects with experts in the field.
- To foster collaborations and enable an African network of scientists, where region-specific problems can be addressed in future.
The Workshop is to be held 2-6 September 2013. This workshop will allow 12 scholars to receive an in-depth hands-on training on the most recent techniques in multiparameter flow
cytometry assays and to analyze and interpret complex sets of data.
Abstract submissions are now open until 10 June 2013.

One of the key focus areas will be antibiotic stewardship, and a pre-congress workshop will run on the 10th October in conjunction with the South African Antibiotic Stewardship Partnership (SAASP).
The Federation is an amalgamation of existing societies representing adult and paediatric infectious diseases, sexuality transmitted diseases, clinical microbiology, infection control and travel medicine. The societies maintain their individual areas of expertise and identities, yet share administrative support, a journal and a biannual national congress.

8th General Meeting of the International Proteolysis Society

The biennial International Proteolysis Society Meeting is one of the major scientific conferences highlighting recent advances in the field of proteases and their inhibitors. The conference embraces a broad range of interests in proteolytic enzymes with a focus on classical protease topics such as cancer and cardiovascular disorders as well as on infectious and communicable diseases such as malaria and HIV.
From Saturday morning 19 October 2012 to Sunday morning 20 October the IPS is proud to announce the return of the popular Training Workshops, open to students and postdocs who want to get some hands-on, protease-specific training, led by experts in three specific fields.

Potential participants: EPI managers, medical doctors, nurses, public health practitioners, researchers, and lecturers who work in the field of vaccinology on the African continent.
People who have attended the course in the last five years are unlikely to be selected for the 2013 course.
Goal: To introduce participants to the various disciplines associated with vaccinology including vaccine development, immunology, microbiology, clinical trials, safety, ethics, economics, evidence-based medicine, advocacy and communication, and immunisation programmes (with emphasis on the Expanded Programme on Immunisation).
