LOCATION:

The Flow Cytometry laboratory is a core facility located in the IIDMM Building, Room S1.11,  Department of Immunology, Faculty of Health Science, University of Cape Town. It runs under the auspices of Professor Frank Brombacher.

EQUIPMENT:

FACS Calibur:

• Acquisition and analysis of samples.
• Measures 6 parameters: FSC (size), SSC (granularity), FITC, PE, PERCP and APC.
• Equipped with a 488nm argon laser and a 635nm diode laser.
• Uses a Power Macintosh G4 system for data analysis.
  

FACS Vantage SE:

• CELL SORTING of cells/particles (0.4 to 200 microns).
• Measures 7 parameters: FSC, SSC and FITC, PE, PERCP, APC, and APC Cy7.
• ULTRA VIOLET Cell sorting or FACS analysis as well as OTHER COLOURS available on request.
• Equipped with a water-cooled laser (Coherent Innova 300C) and a Spectrum Physics laser.
• Uses a Power Macintosh G4 system for data analysis.
• The following sorts are available:
  • LOW/HIGH SPEED SORT
  • STERILE SORT
  • SINGLE CELL/CLONE SORT (6 - 96 well plates & petri dishes)

The Histology Core Facility is located in the Old Main Building, Department of Surgery, J Floor, Groote Schuur Hospital, Observatory in Cape Town. The facility comes under the auspices of the Division of Immunology of the Department of Clinical Laboratory Sciences, and the IIDMM, Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Cape Town.
